My immediate and extended family enjoys cake all of kinds including red velvet, coconut, Japanese fruit cake, and German chocolate cake - especially if it is made from scratch. The cake shown above was made by me; it's a chocolate pound cake. My  grandmother, like many women of her generation, made her cakes  without the use of marked measuring cup or measuring spoon. She measured based on how the ingredients felt. One of my cousins is a fantastic baker. During the holiday season her home is filled with the delicious scent cakes as she bakes cakes for friends, colleagues and others.

Sardines were a treat in my childhood household that I didn't appreciate until I was much older. My mother served the sardines with crackers and mustard.

Many thanks to Food Stories for cataloging the food holidays.
Which holidays will you celebrate? Which holidays will holidays are a surprise to you?  Are any of your favorite foods being celebrated this week?

    Have a great week!

    Be well,
