Food Holidays for the week of 8 June

Which food holidays did you celebrate last week?  Did you know that June is  National Candy Month, National Dairy Month, National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month, and National Seafood Month?

This week's lineup  of food holidays reflects a few on the month long celebrations:

June 8: Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day AND  World Oceans Day (Sustainable Seafood)
June 9: National Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie Day
June 10: Herbs & Spices Day AND  National Iced Tea Day AND National Black Cow Day
June 11: National German Chocolate Cake Day
June 12: International Cachaça Day AND International Falafel Day AND National Jerky Day AND National Peanut Butter Cookie Day
June 13: Kitchen Klutzes of America Day
June 14: National Strawberry Shortcake Day

A Black Cow is another name for a root beer float.

Cachaça (say ka- sha- sa)  is a distilled spirit made from sugarcane juice. It is also known as aguardente and pinga. In the past decade it is gained popularity for its use in cocktails such as caipirinha - the national cocktail of Brasil. The timing of  International Cachaça Day couldn't be more auspicious as Women's World Cup is underway.
