As I stated above, I enjoy egg nog. A dear friend of the family, Mrs. Meadow, made egg nog from scratch when I was a child. I was in my teens when I first had a sip of Mrs. Meadow's egg nog. Despite her cautionary warning that I sip it slowly, I quickly asked for water to cool my burning throat. I was certain the line, "But I'm all lit up like a Christmas tree", from the song "
Merry Christmas Baby" was a reference to Mrs. Meadow's egg nog. Mrs. Meadow passed a few years ago, but the memory of her egg nog remains.
Many thanks to
Food Stories for cataloging the food holidays.
