I discovered Out of the Fire while visiting Easton one Memorial Day weekend to see Chick Corea perform at a venue in Easton.
Standouts: cumin crusted scallops paired with a Tunisian carrot salad, Shrimp and grits with Out of the Fire's homemade tabasco butter (if you like your food spicy, request more of the spicy butter concoction), Kilby's Creamery ice cream sundae (a decadent chocolate brownie al a mode with chocolate or caramel sauce, whipped cream and candied peanuts). A nearby dinner saw the sundae and dubbed it 'death by chocolate'.
Unsure about which wine select with a dish? The knowledgeable staff can provide suggestions. A personal favorite is the Leth Grüner Veltliner- it pairs well with the aforementioned scallops and shrimp dishes. Be sure to check the blackboard or ask the serve for the daily specials that frequently feature locally grown products.

I got the impression you liked 'out of the fire' better than 'mosaic cafe'. So my questions are 1) would you recommend both 2) would you only recommend them based on cost (I can be pacified if the meal was relatively inexpensive 25 and average more then if I paid 60 and the food was average) 3) or wouldn't recommend? Or are you just providing the details and background of the dishes and leaving it up to the reader to determine if they want to go?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your questions. 1) I would recommend both, but it would depend who's dining with me and how food adventurous they are. Out of the Fire is committed to maintaining an environmentally sustainable restaurant and selects ingredients from framers and growers with this in mind. For the diner this means the menu may change more frequently. Mosaic Café's eclectic menu is based on French cuisine with other global influences. The menu doesn't change too much, although there will be meal specials. 2)The price point is about the same at both restaurants.3) I want to provide details and background about my experience first so that if I make a suggestion or recommendation the rationale behind it is understood. Again, thanks for the questions!
