Ciao Ceiba

I read in a local paper that Ceiba is going to close its door on 27 September 2014.  The restaurant's owners feel that the restaurant has 'run its course'.  I am disappointed to read this news and I also recall the fond memories I have of Ceiba.

When I returned to the Washington, DC metro area in 2006 I work at an association. I walked past Ceiba  daily on my way to catch the metro home.  My salary barely allowed to make groceries, much less go anywhere after work. One day I gathered the nerve to stop in Ceiba and have a beer. I was greeted warmly and given time to review the menu before selecting Stella Artois. I savored the beer as I looked around the restaurant.  When done I requested the check. The bartender introduced herself and encouraged me to visit again. I did indeed visit again. On subsequent visits I struck up conversations with people who visited Ceiba regularly. I introduced colleagues and friends  to Ceiba. I witnessed then Senator Obama meeting with people at Ceiba for dinner as rumors swirled about whether he would make a bid to run for President of the United States.  Ceiba's bartenders and my friend LP  helped develop my appreciation for tequila and savor it with a splash of chilled lime juice.  I even took my mother to Ceiba - she loves Ceiba's feijoada (the national dish of Brasil).

I'm grateful for the pleasant memories surrounding Ceiba. I plan to stop by for a final visit for before Ceiba's doors close on 27 September

Ceiba is located at 701 14th Street, NW. The closest metro stop is Metro Center. Reservations can be made via Opentable.

Be well,
