Food Holidays the week of 9 March 2015

Which holidays did you celebrate last week? March is also National Frozen Food Month so, I reheated seafood chowder I made a few months ago one night for dinner.  This week's list of food holidays includes:

March 9: National Crabmeat Day AND National Meatball Day
March 10: National Blueberry Popover Day AND National Pack Your Lunch Day
March 11: Oatmeal-Nut Waffles Day
March 12: National Baked Scallops Day
March 13: Coconut Torte Day
March 14: National Potato Chip Day AND  Bake A Pie in solidarity with Pi Day
March 15: National Pears Hélène Day (with Chocolate Sauce & Brandy)


According to Wikipedia, Pears Helene is "s a dessert made from pears poached in sugar syrup and served with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, and crystallized violets. It was created around 1864 by Auguste Escoffier and named after the operetta "La belle Hélène" by Jacques Offenbach. Simpler versions replace poached pears with canned pears and crystallized violets with sliced almonds."
