Food Holidays for the week of 25 May

Which holidays did you celebrate last week? Did you bake? Make quiche? Eat escargot? Did you know that the fourth week of May is both National Frozen Yogurt Week and American Beer Week? In the United Sates today is Memorial Day. It is also National Barbecue Day and National Hamburger/Cheeseburger Day.

  This week's list of food holidays includes:

  • May 25: National Brown-Bag-It Day AND  National Wine Day
  • May 26: National Blueberry Cheesecake Day AND National Cherry Dessert Day
  • May 27: National Grape Popsicle Day 
  • May 28: National Brisket Day AND National Hamburger Day
  • May 29: National Coq Au Vin Day
  • May 30: National Mint Julep Day

Coq au vin,a French dish, featuring lardon, mushrooms, and chicken braised in wine.Variations of this often represent the wine available in the region: coq au vin jaune (Jura), coq au Riesling (Alsace), coq au pourpre or coq au violet (Beaujolais nouveau), coq au Champagne. Julia Child is credited with presenting coq au vin to the U.S. public via her cooking show on PBS.
