Happy New Year and Happy Bloody Mary Day! Today marks the beginning of 365 new opportunities or chances to learn or try something.
The New Year began here with baking banana nut bread to give as gifts to several people.
.

After baking the bread I moved on to make Hoppin John (a dish featuring black eyed peas) and cook a combination of mustard and collard greens. I used turkey bacon in both dishes. Traditionally the black eyed peas are eaten for good luck and the greens are for money. My friend Glenda reminded me of the Spanish tradition of eating twelve grapes at midnight on New Year's Eve (
las doce uvas de suerte) for good luck/prosperity. At the stroke of midnight I consumed my grapes. I welcome and accept
all the luck and prosperity that comes my way this year!
I hope that you will follow my journey this month. Highlight of this month's journey:
- An interview with a local distiller
- The culinary delights of the African diaspora
- Learning how to distinguish between food allergies and food sensitivities
- Going to cooking school
- And much, much more
Are you ready to begin the journey?
Be well,
Technicolor girl
